About the Founder
Hello, my name is Delois Pitt, founder of Chozen Foundation. I am one of nine siblings. During my childhood, I faced countless difficulties and struggles. These struggles make me who I am today but I wouldn’t wish these challenges on any child. For starters, my biological mother abandoned me at a young age. I have lived most of my life wondering why my biological mother abandoned me. However, I was adopted by a devoted and compassionate aunt. My Aunt loved me dearly but this did not erase the void left by my biological mother. My Aunt had a lot on her plate raising a family of five children, three girls and two boys, but she did her best as a single parent.
Due to the rarity of resources, my household was low-income and with that came many financial challenges. My family could not afford the latest fashion, stylish clothes, annual birthday parties and overnight slumber parties. Of course, every kid yearns these things. My aunt did her best to provide a nurturing environment., Even in a loving environment, I was extremely hurt and devastated by the neglect of my my biological mother. This neglect manifested into low esteem compounded with not being accepted by classmates, My life began a downward spiral to a negative path of destruction. I started engaging in activities that were harmful both physically and emotionally to my existence in life.
In the midst of my darkest season, a light exposed my compassion for serving others. God revealed more of my purpose in life and my life began to take a positive turn. I was introduced to positive role models. I begin to spiritually and physically grow. Through God’s revelation, the passion for helping the youth and the importance of education resonated in my spirit. I started to set personal goals and turned to spiritual words to overcome life obstacles. I was elated when I accomplished the goal of obtaining my Bachelor’s degree. This particular goal is my greatest achievement because during the journey I developed many skills that I continue to utilize in present times. I never lost focus, learned the importance of perseverance, and to not let anyone or life experiences dictate what can be accomplished.
In 2015, I launched my organization Chozen. Chozen’s motto is “Life doesn’t get better by chance it gets better by change”. Chozen is my personal testimony that with God’s grace and mercy I began to be optimistic about my life. I am Godly confident that Chozen will help kids with a similar upbringing as mine overcome difficult trials and be able to succeed.
